14. REFERENCE INFORMATION
14.5.29 Measuring volume Vo
Volume Vo is a value determined from the closed area (S) lower than the slice level (a)
where the mr[c] valuc falls at Mr2 on the BAC (material ratio curve) and upper than the
BAC.

This parameter is value that is converted from the volume (mm

) of the concave portion lower
than the slice level to a volume per area (cm
2
) when viewed from the top of a workpiece, if the
measured profile and slice level are assumed as a plane in a 3-dimensional space.

DEPTH(m)
14.5.30 Mean peak-to-valley height points, R3z
Obtain, for each sampling length, the sum (3Zi) of the height of the third highest profile peak
above the mean line, and the depth (absolute value) of the third deepest profile valley below
the mean line. The arithmetic mean of the 3Zi’s obtained at each sampling length is R3z.

● Profile peak/profile peak height and profile valley/profile valley depth of assessed
profiles
The distance between the mean line and the highest point of the profile peak is the
“profile peak height”. The distance between the mean line and the lowest point of the
profile valley is the “profile valley depth”.
However, if the distance (between the mean line and the highest point of the profile peak
or lowest point of the profile valley) is less than 10% of the Ry value, it is not regarded as
the profile peak height or profile valley depth, respectively.
