5.9 Setting the Pre-Travel/Post-Travel to “OFF”
If measuring the objective surface for a roughness profile (R-profile) within an extremely
limited area, the operator is permitted to set the pre-travel and post-travel to “OFF”. With this
setting, the traversing length can be reduced by as much as the length of the pre-travel and
post-travel lengths, thus making it possible to measure the narrow surface.
The factory-set default of the pre-travel and post-travel has been set to “ON”.
IMPORTANT • Set the pre-travel and post-travel to “ON” unless otherwise required. Setting to
“OFF” may lead to erroneous measurements depending on the surface texture
standard applied.
• If P-profile, MOTIF.R-profile, or MOTIF.W-profile is selected for measuring (L), the
pre-travel and post-travel setting is fixed to “OFF”.
TIP For more information about the traversing length, refer to section 14.4, “Traversing
Length”.
