Configuration Guide Device Management Configuration
Automatic mode: Dynamically controls the rotation speed of the intelligent fan according to the operating temperature in
the device chassis. This mode provides the following advantages:
Reduce operating noise of the device;
Reduce energy consumption;
Prolong lifetime of the fan.
Force enable mode: forces the fan to work at high rotation speed to make sure that the device is working at low
temperature, ensuring proper operations of the device.
Force disable mode: forces the fan to stop working at protection temperature, to keep the device mute.
The force mode increases noise and energy consumption of the device, and shortens the lifetime of fans. Use this
mode with caution.
Over-Temperature Protection
With over-temperature protection, the device disables all ports and stops power over Ethernet (PoE) when the
temperature in the device chassis is higher than the maximum working temperature. This effectively lowers the device
temperature. When the temperature in the device chassis is restored to normal, all ports are enabled and the PoE is
started.
Asset Management
Asset management displays asset information such as software version, hardware version, and serial number.
Working Principles
An intelligent fan uses independent software to adjust rotation speed based on the real-time temperature to lower the
device working temperature. Intelligent fans work in the automatic mode by default.
For over-temperature protection, independent software is used to measure the device working temperature in every two
seconds. The minimum value of five sample data is used as the comparative temperature, which is compared with the
system‟s maximum working temperature and normal temperature for proper control.
