Connecting the position and velocity sensors
Installation
Master/slave mode
with SSI absolute
encoders
SSI absolute encoders can be operated on the DCS..B option in master or slave
mode.
In master mode, the encoder is operated independently on the DCS..B option
whereas in slave mode, only the encoder data are fetched via split cable for further
processing (see chapter "Wiring diagrams for encoders and prefabricated cables").
In master/slave mode, it is essential that encoder 1 is operated in master mode when
using two absolute encoders on the DCS..B option.

You can make encoders connected to MOVIDRIVE
®
B accessible to the DCS..B
option via the backplane bus of MOVIDRIVE
®
B.
If an incremental value of MOVIDRIVE
®
B is to be used via the backplane bus, this
has to be configured as "Encoder 1" in the software interface of MOVISAFE
®
Assist/Config. In MOVIDRIVE
®
B, parameter P557 DCS actual position source must
be set to "Motor encoder (X15)".
If an absolute value of MOVIDRIVE
®
B is to be used via the backplane bus, this has
to be configured as "Encoder 2" in the software interface of MOVISAFE
®
Assist/
Config. Depending on the encoder interface to which the absolute encoder is
connected (DEH21B or DEU21), parameter P557 Actual position source DCS in
MOVIDRIVE
®
B has to be set as follows:
When using DEH21B: set to "Absolute encoder (X62)"
When using DEU21B: set to "X15" or "X14"
5.10.4 Technical requirements on suitable encoder types
SSI absolute encoder:
SSI data interface with constant data length of 24 bits
Binary or gray code data format
Signal level to RS422
If the measuring channel is operated in master mode, the clock rate is 250 kHz.
If the measuring channel is operated in slave mode, the maximum external clock rate
is 300 kHz.
The pulse break between the clock pulse trains must be greater than 30 μs and less
than 6 ms.
HTL incremental encoder
Signal level DC 24 V/0 V
Measuring signal A/B track with 90 degree phase difference
Maximum frequency of input pulses: 200 kHz
TTL incremental encoder:
Signal level to RS422
Measuring signal A/B track with 90 degree phase difference
Maximum frequency of input pulses: 200 kHz
SIN/COS encoder:
