Rulesfortransducerhandling
Atransducermustalwaysbehandledasadelicateinstrument.Incorrectactionsmaydamage
thetransducerbeyondrepair.Aphysicalblowtothetransducerfacemayeasilydamageone
ormoreelements.Observethesetransducerhandlingrules:
Donotactivatethetransducerwhenitisoutofthewater.
Donothandlethetransducerroughlyandavoidimpacts.
Donotexposethetransducertodirectsunlightorexcessiveheat.
Donotdamagetheouterprotectiveskinofthetransducer.
Donotusehigh-pressurewater,sandblasting,metaltoolsorstrongsolventstoclean
thetransducer.
Donotsteponthetransducercables.
Donotdamagethetransducercables,andavoidexposuretosharpobjects.
Systemdescription
TheSimradST90isalongrangeandlowfrequencyshndingsonarwitha360degrees
coverage.TheST90isdesignedformediumandlargesizedshingvessels.
Ifhighperformanceisyournumber1criteriawhenchoosingasonar;suchaslongrange,
highresolution,narrowbeamsandhighsourcelevels,thisisyournaturalchoice.Wemade
nocompromisesduringthedesignoftheST90.Ourgoalwassimplytomaketheultimate
highperformanceshndingsonar.WiththeSimradST90,weuselowerfrequencies
thantheSX90andSU90sonars.Inordertoachievethis,acompletelynewtransducerhas
beendesigned.EachelementislargerthanthepreviousSX90andSU90elements,butthe
numberofelementsisthesameastheSU90.Thisallowsforthesamenarrowbeam,and
ultimatelyalongerrange.TheST90hasbeendesignedtosearchwithverylongrangesinall
weatherandseaconditions.Whetheritisheavyweather,hardbottom,openwaters,weak
targets-allechoesarehandledbytheST90duetothefullystabilizedandverynarrow
beamscombinedwiththecuttingedgesignalprocessing.
Thecentreoperationalfrequencyis19kHz,butyoucanselectanyoperationalfrequency
from14to24kHzinstepsof1kHz.Thecylindricalmulti-elementtransducerallows
theomnidirectionalsonarbeamstobetiltedelectronicallyfrom-10to+84degrees.This
allowsyoutoautomaticallytrackschoolsofsh,andtoobservethewholewatervolume
aroundthevessel.
TheST90providesanumberofstandardinterfacelinesforcommunicationwithperipheral
devicesandsensors.Typicalinputsaregeographicalinformationfromapositioningsystem,
vesselspeedandcurrentheading.Bydefault,theST90usesabuilt-inmotionsensor.For
improvedoperationalaccuracy,anexternalmotionreferenceunit(MRU)canbeconnected.
