Adjusting Seal Quality
Heat Seal Adjustments
If a Peel Force Test determines the Heat Sealer is not generating a satisfactory seal, try one of
the adjustments below to improve seal strength.
Heat Seal Shoe Temperature
The Temperature Controller displays the actual temperature in red on the left and the set point in
green on the right.
Increase or decrease the temperature of the sealer shoes. The
inside and outside seals have independent temperature control-
lers. Simply press the up or down buttons on the controllers to
adjust the target temperatures they maintain. Under normal con-
ditions and materials, changing the temperatures should suffice.
The TM-500 accommodates a wide range of carrier tapes and
cover tapes. Settings may vary from one tape product to another.
The suggested starting point is 120 degrees.
Note: Generally, it is best practice to adjust the temperature to achieve the desired peel
force. For additional information on adjusting the Temperature Controller, see Appendix
A: Sensors.
Seal Pressure
This control is located on the front of the Taper. It controls
the amount of force applied when the sealer shoes drop.
Turning the Seal Pressure control clockwise will increase
the pressure, while turning it counter-clockwise will
decrease the pressure.
Increase or decrease the air pressure supplied to the pneu-
matic cylinders that actuate the sealer. The recommended
operating range is 40-100 psi.
Dwell Time
Increase or decrease the dwell time (The amount of time the
sealer spends in contact with the cover tape)..This is set in
the HMI’s Taper Settings Tab in the Sealer Settings section
Note: The dwell time affects the throughput of the
taper. The recommended Dwell Time is 400 ms.
