IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS FOR DC-POWER CONNECTION
Important Consideraons for DC-Power Connecon
Since the operator is intended to run on baeries, control of the load is important. Gates that move
easily and do not bind will drain less energy from the baery, preserving capacity for more cycles
during a power failure.
Be certain to observe polarity when connecng the baeries or adding accessories. Reversed
polarity may result in a non-funconal operator or damage to a component. Red (+) is posive
and black (-) is negave. If shorted, the baeries will generate a very high current. The baeries
are connected in a series circuit: Join the posive (+) terminal from one baery to the negave (-)
terminal of the next baery.
Baeries have a nite life and age more quickly when exposed to temperatures above 80°F (27°C).
Baery temperatures above 104°F (40°C) are damaging, and signicantly shorten baery life.
As the baeries age, they will progressively lose their capacity to store energy. If the total amount
of back up capacity is crical, plan to replace the baeries aer two years of use especially in hot
climates. Properly discard used baeries. Refer to “Hazardous Materials and Proper Disposal” on
page 24
Baeries are rated to perform to capacity at certain temperatures. Variaons in temperature aect
performance of the baeries. An example of amp-hour performance is shown in Table 4. Wallace
Perimeter Security mounts the baery pack near the transformer to provide residual heat around
the baeries which guards against amp-hour loss.
Temperature Capacity
77°F (25°C) 100
32°F (0°C) 80
-22°F (-30°C) 50
Table 4. Amp-Hour - Example of Baery Performance
Wallace Perimeter Security uses a permanently sealed AGM-type baery which lasts much longer
than wet cell baeries and needs no maintenance over its life span. Baeries are protected from
over discharge by a low voltage sensing circuit. The charger circuit regulates to allow high charger
output when the baery is parally discharged. The charger circuit automacally reduces the
output to near zero as the baeries become fully charged.
The Kinec operator stores all User and
Installer Menu sengs in non-volale
memory (EEPROM). Conguraons
are saved if a power loss occurs and
reinstated once power is restored.
Baeries contain sulphuric acid. Acid
in your eyes, on your skin, or on your
clothing can cause injury and severe
burns. If baeries are dropped or
damaged dispose of them properly.
