STwrench User Guide System overview
9836 4134 01 Edition 2.9 41 (326)
WARNING:
Do not tighten the smartHEAD over its torque capacity. This might damage the transducer and cause
improper torque reading. If 120% of the smartHEAD nominal torque (for instance, for a 150 Nm
smartHEAD, if the torque goes over 180 Nm) is exceeded, an error message is shown:
In this case the STwrench must be switched off and on again.
After an overload event, the following message is shown each time the STwrench is switched on:
The smartHEAD must then be sent to the Customer Centre for inspection. The smartHEAD recalibration
(procedure to be performed by Atlas Copco service personnel) is required to restore normal operations.
In case of multiple overloads, the information stored is the highest recorded overload value.
The gyroscope, which allows angle measurement, is optional. With this feature, you can access a wider set
of tightening strategies, either for tightening in production or when performing quality control tests, as
well as for use in free mode.
The maximum angular speed of the gyroscope is 150°/s; if this speed is exceeded during tightening, the
STwrench displays an “overspeed” error message; this will result in the angle result being set to 9999
degrees.
The smartHEAD Minimum Load value is calculated as 5% of its wrench capacity (for some special
applications the Minimum Load can be decreased). In this case, the smartHEAD requires a special
calibration. See the chapter Minimum load settings for more information).
The smartHEAD features the tool recognition function and contains an illuminating LED. See the chapter
Configuration for tool recognition and illuminating light settings.
