Alias
The alias is a user-deÞned symbolic name that expresses the widgetÕs
value. By using the same alias for several widgets, you can link the
operation of these widgets. For example, if a slider and a meter share the
same alias, adjustments that are made to the slider will change the
current value on the meter. If a slider and a knob share the same alias,
adjusting the knob will cause the slider to move, and moving the slider
will cause the knob to move.
There are some important rules for alias names:
¥ They must start with a letter.
¥ They can contain only letters, numbers, and the underscore
symbol ( _ ).
¥ They cannot contain blank spaces.
¥ Names are case-insensitive. There is no difference between
VOLUME, Volume, and volume.
For more information on aliases, see ÒAdvanced Panel DesignÓ on page
11-31.
Customizing the Appearance of a Panel
There are a large number of widget settings that affect the appearance
of StudioWare widgets, as indicated in the following table:
Setting... What it’s for...
Style The type of widget: knob, slider, button, LED, meter, text,
cluster, or image; when you change the style of a widget, its
other properties stay intact.

widget labels short. Labels can also be used to show values;
see “Widget Tips and Tricks” on page 11-36, for more
information.
Border If checked, a border is displayed around the widget.
Show Label If checked, the widget label is displayed in the panel directly
below the widget (for cluster widgets, the label appears at the
top of the widget).
Show Value If checked, the value of the widget is displayed in the panel
directly above the widget.
X, Y The X and Y position of the upper-left corner of the widget (in
pixels).
Width, Height The width and height of the widget (in pixels).
