• The Adhesive zone is the ring of epoxy or glue that attaches
the cladding to the ferrule. This is the zone between the two
green rings on the FiberInspector image. The middle of this
area has a diameter of 125 μm, which is the diameter of the
ferrule. Standards for endface analysis do not specify limits
for scratches or defects in the adhesive zone, so defects and
scratches in this area do not affect the PASS/FAIL result.
• The Contact zone is the area on the ferrule that touches the
other fiber when you make a connection. The blue ring
around the Contact zone has a diameter of 250 μm for all
limits.
Note
If the sizes of the rings do not agree with the sizes
of core or cladding, use the measurement axes to
measure the core or cladding.
