How to Define a Span
1 Tap TOOLS, then tap Span.
2 On the SPAN screen, tap Set.
3 On the SET SPAN DISTANCE screen, tap Span Start and Span
Stop to define the span.
4 On the SET SPAN DISTANCE screen, tap SAVE.
How to Do a Test with Your Span Settings
1 Turn off Launch Compensation:
a. On the home screen, tap the test setup panel.
b. On the CHANGE TEST screen, tap EDIT.
c. On the TEST SETUP screen, set Launch Compensation to
Off.
d. Tap SAVE, then tap USE SELECTED.
2 Do an OTDR test. Figures 116, 117, and 118 show OTDR results
for a span.
Bi-directional Tests with Span Settings
When you use span settings with a bi-directional test:
• If you want the span to include the same section of fiber from
both ends, be sure to change the span settings when you do
the test from the other end. For example, a fiber is 300 m
long, and the Span Start and Span Stop are 0 m and 100 m for
End 1. To get results for the same section of fiber from End 2,
set the Span Start and Span Stop to 200 m and 300 m.
• If you define a span, then do a bi-directional test on a fiber,
you can see the results from both ends of the fiber, but the
tester does not calculate averaged bi-directional results. See
