CHECKING THE STEERING SYSTEM
1. Check:
Place the vehicle on a level surface.
steering assembly bearings Try to the steering
wheel up and down, and back and forth.
Excessive play
Replace the steering shaft
assembly.
• tie-rod ends
Turn the steering wheel to the left and right
until it stops completely, and then move the
steering wheel slightly in the opposite
direction. Tie-rod end (s) have vertical play
Replace the tie-rod end(s).
• Raise the front end of the vehicle so that there
is no weight on the front wheels.
• Check:
Ball joints and/or wheel bearings Move the
wheels laterally back and forth. Excessive free
play
Replace the front arms (upper and
lower) and/or wheel bearings.
