Telescoping - Theory of Operation
The following section describes the internal operation of a
pinning boom.
The telescoping process requires locking and unlocking
processes in the main boom. The main boom can be
telescoped in different ways.
Manual Telescoping
For manual telescoping, the operator must initiate some
locking and unlocking processes at the right time.
Semi-automatic Telescoping
When telescoping with semi-automation, the operator enters
a telescoping sequence or “tele picture” and the Crane
Control System (CCS) controls all of the locking and
unlocking processes automatically. This mode can also be
used for intermediate lengths.
NOTE: For more information on telescoping with
semi-automation refer to Telescoping with
Semi-automation, page 4-38.
