5.7.2 Connections to External Circuits
Except for Mains connection, the external connections between this product and
other external devices are PELV (Protected Extra Low Voltage) as defined by IEC
61140. Non-Mains outputs of other devices connected to this product should also
be PELV or SELV (Safety Extra Low Voltage).
5.7.3 Operating in the Vicinity of GTAW Equipment
When operating GTAW (TIG) equipment in AC mode, high frequency is used to
stabilize the arc. This high-frequency radiation travels through any cable or con-
ductor electrically connected to the power supply. It also radiates back into the
shop electrical input lines and is propagated through the air as radio waves.
Ensuring that all GTAW equipment is properly grounded and shielded are import-
ant for safe operation. Improper grounding and shielding can lead to direct
emission of high-frequency radiation, which can cause damage to equipment in
the area.
Suggested best practices:
• Establish a welding zone: A circle 50 ft (15 m) radius from the midpoint between
high-frequency source and weld torch in all directions.
• Welding zone: Ensure all metal machine cases, work output terminal, line discon-
nect device, input supply, and welding table in the welding zone are connected to
earth ground using #12 AWG wire.
• Weld Cables: Keep weld cables as short as possible and close together.
• Conduit in welding zone: Electrically bond all sections of conduit in welding zone
together using copper straps or braided wire.
• Pipes: Ground water pipes every 50 ft (15 m).
• Materials: Bolt or weld metal building panels together and install copper straps or
braided wire across joints. Ensure building frame is grounded.

A 4-wire door switch is shown in the example found in section 5.8.1 [▶85].
NOTICE
To prevent damage, isolate the OptX device
The OptX device is designed to operate in industrial environments; However, care
should be taken to isolate the OptX device from the area where GTAW equipment
is being operated whenever possible.
