Basic Operational Procedures
GENERAL
The ECDIS900 is a window based Human Machine Interface (HMI) where requested
information is obtained from menus, message boxes, dialogue boxes and other standard
window controls in the display.
A mouse is the main operating tool for the system.
A keyboard is also necessary to input alphanumeric data.
STANDARD MOUSE FUNCTION
Terminology and descriptions of the operator’s standard mouse functions:
Cursor
The cursor is a small mobile icon. The shape depends on its position on the
screen and on selected function
Locate cursor
Move the cursor to position on the screen by moving the mouse
Click the left
button
Quickly press and release the left mouse button
Click the right
button
Point the object of interest, press the right mouse button and a contextual
menu, depending on the object type, is displayed
Double click the
left button
Quickly press twice and release the left mouse button
Throughout this manual, the terms 'click' and 'double click' assume the left button. It is
specifically stated when the right button is applicable.
PROMPT WINDOW
For some objects (target, buoys with name, weather and ocean current data) the ECDIS
provides direct access to main properties of the object. Move the cursor on top of the object
and after two seconds a prompt window displays information.
DIALOGUE BOXES
The ECDIS900 is window based application. that means the operated by the selection and
activation of graphic windows using the cursor. When the cursor is located inside a window,
the window becomes active. Left mouse click activates the window function.
