ECDIS comprises several hundred software components that are compliant to the IMO
Performance Standard for ECDIS, the IHO Standards S-52/ S-57, and the IEC standard 61174.
All high level functions developed by MARIS on top of the chart kernel are also compliant
with the regulations listed above.
ENC
It is impossible to alter the contents of the ENC. If an ENC cell is modified the ECDIS detects
the modification and rejects the cell during installation procedure.
Official ENC are converted and stored with a proprietary format. The conversion maintains the
precision of the data and does not alter the accuracy of the data.
UPDATE
Updates are stored independently from ENC. See User Guide Ch 14 paragraph 3 for the
complete description of the folders used to store cells and updates.
CHART AREA AND RESOLUTION
The chart area size in ECDIS is bigger than 270 * 270 mm.
The pixel size of the screen is about 0.28 mm.
PRESENTATION
The ECDIS chart information has been designed to be clearly visible for more than one
observer in different light conditions. The symbols are always drawn with the size described
in the presentation library.
All superimposed windows are temporary and can be moved and hidden at any time.
The 64 colours used for chart and MMI displays are compliant with S52 Publications.
