16.8 HFO Only Set-up (SLE5000 only)
Step 1. From the
Mode Select panel
select HFO Only.
Step 2. Default parameters in the preview mode:
HFO Rate 10Hz
Mean 4 mbar
Delta P 4 mbar
HFO I:E 1:1
O
2
% As per prescription
Step 3. Press the Confirm button to enter
the HFO Only mode. The ventilator will now start to
ventilate at the set parameters.
16.8.1 Actions After Connection to Patient in
HFO
Step 4. Adjust the Delta P parameter as required.
Step 5. Set the HFO I:E ratio.
Step 6. The High and Low Pressure Alarm
thresholds auto track the pressure waveform by 10
mbar. The alarm thresholds can be adjusted if
required. The thresholds are found in the pressure
waveform window.
Step 7. Set the High and Low Tidal Volume
thresholds. These thresholds are found in the Tidal
Volume waveform window. (This waveform will not
appear when operating without a flow sensor).
Note: In preview mode the mean is limited to
18 mbar which means that the maximum Delta
P that can be set is 36 mbar (Twice the mean
setting).
The ventilator is now ready to be
connected to the patient under user
supervision. Prior to and after
connection, it is the user’s
responsibility to adjust and monitor
the ventilation parameters to suit the
patient’s medical condition.
Note: Do not press the autoset button in the
alarm panel until the required Delta P has
been set. Pressing the autoset button before
adjustment will only cause the unexpected
drop/rise alarm to be re-triggered on
changing the Delta P setting.
Note: The High Minute Volume alarm will be
triggered if switching to HFO from another
mode where the high minute volume alarm
was set. Due to the nature of HFO ventilation,
very high minute volumes are quickly
produced. To clear the alarm, increase the
high minute volume alarm threshold. If the
user intends to increase the Delta P at a later
stage the threshold may have to be adjusted
again. (Default setting for the threshold is
18000 ml).
