1. General
The engine control system (ECS) is an embedded system that has a modular design.
Some parts and functions in the ECS configuration are optional and are related to the
application.
Note: The name of the WinGD engine control system is Unified Controls
Flex (UNIC−flex)
The system uses modern bus technologies for the transmission of signals.
Data buses transmit signals between the external systems:
D Propulsion Control System (PCS) (see paragraph 4.2)
D Alarm and Monitoring System (AMS) (see paragraph 4.3).
These data buses are the interface between the operator and engine control.
CAUTION
Damage Hazard: Software updates must be done only with the
supervision of a Wärtsilä service engineer and in accordance with
regulations that Wärtsilä Services Switzerland Ltd. has set.
Damage to the control system and the engine can occur.
