3.3 Tier III
CAUTION
Damage Hazard. The SCR is designed to operate with Marine Gas
Oil (maximum sulphur content of 0.1%). Do not operate the engine
with fuels that have a high sulphur content. Damage the the SCR
will occur.
When this mode is activated, the NO
x
limits of Tier III can only be kept after a urea
injection. For more data, refer to paragraph 2.4
The Tier III mode can be activated when the SCR system is ready for operation and
the exhaust gas is at the specified minimum temperature.
If the Tier III mode is selected when the SCR system is not ready for operation
(because the SCR reactor temperature is too low), the SCR heating mode is
activated. The SCR heating mode will stop and operation in the selected mode will
start after satisfactory conditions are known.
For the fuel change-over procedure, refer to 0270−1, Change-over from Diesel Oil to
Heavy Fuel Oil and Back. Make sure that the change-over procedure is completed.
Also, operate the engine as specified with Marine Gas Oil before you start the SCR
operation. This makes sure that the fuel system is fully flushed and the sulphur
content of the fuel is applicable. Obey the specification of the SCR supplier related to
the maximum sulphur content.
