6. AMS Alarms
The SCR system gives three messages to the AMS:
D SCR ON. This message shows that the SCR system is activated
D SCR Minor Alarm. This message shows a failure that does not have an effect on
the SCR system operation.
D SCR Major Alarm. The message shows a failure that activates the change to
Tier II mode without SCR operation.
The SCR LDU of the SCR control system shows data about the root alarm.
7. Effects on Engine Performance
During SCR operation, the engine performance will be changed and compared to the
usual engine operation (SCR bypassed):
D NO
x
emissions downstream of the SCR will decrease
D You can operate the turbine bypass to keep the exhaust gas temperature more
than the minimum necessary for urea injection.
D The engine control system uses different maps for SCR modes.
D During the heating-up of the SCR reactor, the heating-up decreases the exhaust
gas temperature at the turbine inlet. This causes small differences in scavenge
air pressure. Also, the SCR reactor keeps the temperature of the gas flow higher
for some time during a decrease in engine load. When the engine has stopped,
there is small increase in temperature upstream of the turbocharger.
