For Ethernet backhaul deployments, the service provider has two network architecture options:
• Complete Ethernet transport — The Ethernet transport case is effective and efficient if the
current base station supports Ethernet connectivity (or can be upgraded to support
Ethernet connectivity) and Ethernet service access is available at all cell sites.
• Pseudowire transport of existing technologies over Ethernet — The pseudowire transport
case is effective and efficient when base stations do not support Ethernet connectivity or
Ethernet service access is only available at hub sites. Most large mobile service providers
can use a combination of the two service architectures for different regions and areas
within their network.
