While the previous sections concentrated on the centralized case (1) shown in Figure 22, one of
the key value propositions for utilizing service routers in the mobile backhaul RAN aggregation is
derived from its seamless ability to migrate to Ethernet/MPLS-based RAN aggregation whenever
and wherever the service provider wants. The service provider can choose between any
combination of a fully distributed model where Ethernet is used all the way to the cell site or a hub
model where Ethernet is used to the hub site and a traditional leased line or microwave is used for
the last mile access to the cell site.
