Description This command administratively disables an entity. When disabled, an entity does not change, reset, or
remove any configuration settings or statistics. The operational state of the entity is disabled as well
as the operational state of any entities contained within. Many objects must be shut down before they
may be deleted.
Services are created in the administratively down (shutdown) state. When a no shutdown command
is entered, the service becomes administratively up and then tries to enter the operationally up state.
Default administrative states for services and service entities is described below in Special Cases.
The no form of this command places the entity into an administratively enabled state.
Special Cases IES — The default administrative status of an IES service is down. While the service is down, all its
associated virtual router interfaces will be operationally down. The administrative state of the service
is not reflected in the administrative state of the virtual router interface.
For example if: 1) An IES service is operational and an associated interface is shut down.
2) The IES service is administratively shutdown and brought back up.
3) The interface shutdown will remain in administrative shutdown state.
A service is regarded as operational provided that one IP Interface is operational.
Shutting down a subscriber interface will operationally shut down all child group interfaces and
SAPs. Shutting down a group interface will operationally shut down all SAPs that are part of that
group-interface.
