7.9 Possible failures of the hydrostatic steering control and instructions for
troubleshooting
The list of possible failures of the hydrostatic steering control and instructions for
their troubleshooting are given in Table 7.9.1.

Great effort at the steering wheel
No pressure or insufficient oil pres-
sure in the steering control charge
hydraulic line (it shall be from 14.5
to 16.0 MPa when the steering
wheel is turned to the stop) due to
the following reasons:
- HSC hydraulic system was not bled
- faulty adjustment of dosing pump
safety valve (low pressure)
- faulty feed pump (the pump fails to
increase pressure because of low
volume efficiency)
Bleed the HSC hydraulic system by turning the
steering wheel with moving guide wheels from left-
most to the right-most position (stop-to-stop posi-
tion) for 2-3 times
Contact the dealer. It is necessary to adjust the safety
valve for the required pressure

. The operation shall
be performed only by maintenance department.

Contact the dealer. The pump does not develop
pressure due to low volume efficiency
Excessive friction or sticking in
steering column’s mechanical com-
ponents
Stop friction in steering column by doing the follow-
ing:
- loosen upper nut;
- lubricate friction surfaces of plastic bushings;
- eliminate contact of cardan-joint yoke with
steering column bracket walls
Increased turn torque of FDA gear
groups
Repair the FDA
Steering wheel is rotating without driven wheels turning
There is no oil in the tank Fill the tank with oil to the required level and bleed
the hydraulic system of HSC
Improper adjustment of dosing
pump valves. Adjusting pressure of
the safety valve exceeds the pres-
sure of anti-shock valves
Contact the dealer. It is necessary to adjust the
safety valve and anti-shock valve to the required
pressure. The operation shall be performed only by
maintenance department

Repair or replace the hydraulic cylinder
