MODES OF OPERATION
Impact Relief
Should the gearcase hit an underwater object and
the ou tboard suddenly tilts u p, th e t ilt cylinder
extends. The fluid abo ve the piston is co m-
pressed, producing high pressure.
This h igh pressure f luid p asses th rough the
impact relie f valves in t he tilt piston, dissipating
much of the energy of the impact.
To return the outboard to its original po sition, the
hydraulic unit mu st be op erated in the DOWN
direction.
