Installing External Storage Devices
You can connect optional mass storage devices to the server two different
ways, either by using the external SCSI port 1 connector on the back of the
unit or by using an optional SCSI controller board. To install an external
storage device to the external SCSI connector, refer to the installation
documentation provided with the external storage device. Refer to Chapter 5,
“SCSI Cabling Instructions,” for additional server cabling information.
The following illustration provides only an overview of this installation
procedure. The ProLiant ML370 rack configuration is different from the
ProLiant ML370 tower model shown below.
CAUTION: External SCSI port 1 and internal SCSI port 1 are the same port.
Because the port cannot be used for both internal and external devices at the
same time, disconnect any devices connected to the internal SCSI port 1
connector, including the terminated SCSI cable, before connecting external SCSI
port 1 to an external device.
