ProLink III Device Tools > Configuration > I/O > Outputs > Discrete Output > Polarity
Field Communicator Configure > Manual Setup > Inputs/Outputs > Channel x > Discrete Output x > DOx Polarity
A Discrete Output has two states: ON (active, asserted) and OFF (inactive). Two different voltages are used to
represent these states. Discrete Output Polarity controls which voltage represents which state.
Procedure
Set Discrete Output Polarity as desired.
• Default: Active High
8.6.3 Configure Discrete Output Fault Action
Display Menu > Configuration > Inputs/Outputs > Channel x > I/O Settings > Fault Action
ProLink III Device Tools > Configuration > I/O > Outputs > Discrete Output > Fault Action
Field Communicator Configure > Manual Setup > Inputs/Outputs > Channel x > Discrete Output x > DO x Fault Action
Discrete Output Fault Action controls the behavior of a Discrete Output if the transmitter detects a fault
condition.
Important
• The fault action is implemented only if Alert Severity is set to Failure. If Alert Severity is set to any other
option, the fault action is not implemented.
• For some faults only: If Fault Timeout is set to a non-zero value, the transmitter will not implement the
fault action until the timeout has elapsed.
CAUTION
Do not use Discrete Output Source as a fault indicator. If you do, you may not be able to distinguish a fault
condition from a normal operating condition. If you want to use the Discrete Output as a fault indicator,
see Fault indication with a Discrete Output.
Procedure
Set Discrete Output Fault Action as desired.
Default: None
