address, network address, or default route. The destination for a
default route is 0.0.0.0.
• Netmask – enter the network mask. This is used in conjunction with
the destination to determine when a route is used.
• Gateway – enter the IP address of your Gateway.
• Metric – enter a measurement preference of the route. Typically, the
lowest metric is the most preferred route. If multiple routes exist
to a specific destination network, the route with the lowest metric
is used.

You can easily add computers configured as DHCP clients to the
network. The DHCP server provides a mechanism for allocating IP
addresses to these hosts and for delivering network configuration
parameters to the hosts.
For example, a client (host) sends a broadcast message on the network
requesting an IP address for itself. The DHCP server then checks its list
of available addresses and leases a local IP address to the host for a
specific period of time and simultaneously designates this IP address as
taken. At this point, the host is configured with an IP address for the
duration of the lease.
The host can renew an expiring lease or let it expire. If it renews a
lease, the host receives current information about network services, as
it did during the original lease, allowing it to update its network
configurations to reflect any changes that occurred since the first
connection to the network.
