–
Mixing of non-3DS and 3DS RDIMMs is not allowed in platform.
–
Mixing of Optane PMem modules with RDIMMs or with LRDIMMs is
supported.
–
DIMMs with dif
ferent frequencies can be mixed in the system, but lowest
frequency determines the system memory speed.
–
There should be at least one DDR4 DIMM per CPU socket.
–
If only one DIMM is populated in a channel, then populate it in the slot
furthest away from CPU (i.e. the black slot).
–
Mixing Optane PMem capacities or generations or DDR4 capacities and
types within a socket or across sockets is not supported for Optane PMem
configurations.
–
When different rank DIMMs are populated for 2DPC, always populate the
higher number rank DIMM first (starting from the black slot), for example,
first octal rank, then quad rank, then dual rank, and last single rank DIMM.
10.2.3
DDR4 only - memory population rules
–
Unbalanced configurations can lead to significantly reduced bandwidth
because the system will fracture the memory space into multiple regions.
–
If two DIMM with different capacity are installed in one channel, the one with
higher capacity has to be placed in slot 1 of a channel. E.g. 1A, 1B, ….
–
Rank sparing mode is not supported.
