3-62 Section 3-7 - Completing the Hardware Installation
3-7-6 Connecting the Unit to a Power Source
The connection of the Vivid i n/ Vivid q N ultrasound unit to a power source should be performed by a
qualified person who has completed basic Vivid i n/ Vivid q N System User Training. Use only the power
cords, cables and plugs provided by or designated by GE Medical Systems to connect the unit to the
power source.
3-7-6-1 Connecting the Ultrasound Unit to the Electrical Outlet
DANGER: To avoid the risk of fire, power to the system must be supplied from a properly rated
outlet. It is recommended to use a dedicated power outlet. The power plug should not, under any
circumstances, be altered to a configuration rated less than that specified for the current.
DO NOT use an extension cord or adaptor plug. Refer to 2-2-5 "Electrical Requirements" on page
2-3 for more details.
NOTE: It is recommended to connect the AC-DC converter to the ultrasound unit first, before connecting it to
the AC wall outlet.
1.) Connect the AC-DC converter to the ultrasound unit.
2.) Connect the AC-DC converter to the wall outlet.
CAUTION
Verify compliance with all electrical and safety requirements and check the power cord to verify
that it is intact and of hospital-grade before connecting the unit to the power source. Products
equipped with a power source (wall outlet) plug should be connected to the fixed power socket
that has a protective grounding conductor. Never use an adapter or converter to connect with a
power source plug (for example, a three-prong to two-prong converter).
