7.8.2 Lavage and Aspirate
Lavage
Select Lavage mode to irrigate the cavity and to clear the biopsy device of tissue. The
system will turn the vacuum on, open the aperture, open the saline pinch valve, and
close the aspiration valve in order to push saline through the aperture. It is not necessary
to depress the footswitch.
Aspirate
Select Aspirate mode to vacuum the cavity. The system will turn the vacuum on, open
the aperture, close the saline pinch valve, and open the aspiration valve in order to push
air through the aperture. It is not necessary to depress the footswitch.
7.8.3 Conclude Tissue Acquisition
1. Release the footswitch. Select Standby mode to close the aperture prior to removal of
the biopsy device from the biopsy cavity.
2. Remove the biopsy needle and device driver as a unit from the biopsy device adapter
while leaving the introducer in place for marker deployment. (Use the release latch
on the back of the device driver to detach the biopsy device from the adapter.)
3. After removing needle from the breast, use the aspirate mode to clear the needle
aperture.
4. Press the buttons on the sides of the biopsy needle to disengage it from the device
driver. Detach the biopsy needle from the device driver and discard in a sharps
container. (The tubing and tissue filter are removed from the console later.)
Warning:
Do not place fingers on the metal parts of the device driver. These parts can
move during system use.
Note
The console beeps three times before resetting the position of the metal parts of the
device driver.
5. Slide the device driver onto the device driver holder on the console until it clicks.
