A range of integrated workload management and Capacity on Demand features
can enable businesses to adjust workloads and performance dynamically to
meet constantly shifting priorities.
The Model 595 is offered as either a Standard or Enterprise Edition, each with
four i5/OS processor licenses. Extensive on demand capabilities and dynamic
partitioning for up to a total of 254 partitions of i5/OS, Linux, and AIX 5L are
supported.
The Model 595 is built using a processor book structure. Each 16-way processor
book has two 8-way multichip modules (MCM) with state of-the-art, 64-bit,
POWER5 processors. Each processor book has sixteen memory slots. Each
book also provides attachment capability for up to six HSL-2/RIO-G loops on
which HSL-2/RIO-G I/O drawers and towers can be attached.
The Model 595 consists at a minimum of two enclosures: a two-meter system
unit enclosure and an I/O tower about one meter in height.
Model overview
This section takes a closer look at the minimum functional server, required
features, and optional features.
Minimum functional server
A minimum functional server consists of the base server unit and selected priced
features. The Model 595 supports hot plug and concurrent add of PCI cards, disk
units, and removable media devices.
Included in the base server are the physical package and power elements as
follows:
򐂰 System unit (also known as the Central Electronics Complex or CEC)
򐂰 #9194 Base PCI-X Expansion Tower or #8294 Optional Base 1.8M Rack
򐂰 Line cord features
Two line cord features should be specified for the 595 system unit, with two
additional line cord features for the #9194 Base PCI-X Expansion Tower as
well as two HSL-2/RIO-G cables. Three (the default) or four HSL-2/RIO-G
cables are needed for the #8294 Optional Base 1.8M Rack and two additional
line cords for the top tower.
