4.2.3.1 Feed Hoppers
The ASTRONAUT A3 Next has up to feed hoppers. Each feed hopper that
is in use has a feed dosing unit that provides portions of concentrates.
In most cases the feed funnels are filled by tube feeders that are
connected to silos.
Note:
Lely does not supply tube feeders and silos.
A titania kit can be installed to dispense nutrition fluid, like Propylene
Glycol, into the feed through. A dosage of 100cc per day that is provided
during the first 60 days of the lactation period reduces weight loss and
prevents ketosis.
4.2.3.2 Dosing unit
The dosing unit gives the exact quantity of food portions and drops
them through the feed chute into the feed through.
The amount of concentrate to be fed to a cow is based on calculations
made in the T4C farm management system.
The proportion of each feed type and the total amount that is fed can
be set per cow, group or herd.
4.2.3.3 Feed Through
The feed through is installed on the front plate.
If the ASTRONAUT A3 Next has an ISO ID-system, the cow ID reader is
installed on the feed through. It is a sealed plastic box with an internal
antenna.
4.2.4 Covers and Doors
The ASTRONAUT A3 Next has the following covers and doors:
Upper, middle and lower cover
The upper cover (7, fig. 7,
page 4-13) and middle cover give access to the
multiple function box cover.
The middle (8) and lower cover (9) give access to important parts of the
milking system, for example the milk jar and milk pump.
Multiple function box cover
The multiple function box has the power system and the PCBs of the
control system. It has a separate safety cover with locks. The operator
must open the multiple function box to test the safe-life switch (page 8-
14).
