Backplanes: 3.5-inch front drive bays
This section provides backplane cable connection information for server models with 3.5-inch front drive
bays.
Before you start
Ensure below parts are removed before starting cable routing for front backplanes.
• Top cover (see “Remove the top cover” on page 376)
• Air baffle (see “Remove the air baffle” on page 196)
• Fan cage (see “Remove the system fan cage” on page 368)
Power cable connections
Connect the power cables for the front 3.5-inch drive backplanes as illustrated.

Controller selections
This section provides controller selection information for configurations with 3.5-inch front drive bays.
The following table lists the supported controller combinations for configurations with 3.5-inch front drive
bays. For more information about the controllers, see “Technical specifications” on page 3.
Note: The internal customer form factor (CFF) RAID/HBA 16i adapter is supported only when two
processors are installed.
