McHale Fusion 2 round baler wrapper technical service manual
Issue 1: 0208
11.3 Electronic control operation
11.3.1 Control system
The McHale Fusion 2 baling and wrapping cycle is controlled by a cab mounted electronic
control box operating the machine mounted hydraulic valves via a multi-core cable.
Reed and proximity sensors on the machine return operating status signals to the control
box.
11.3.2 Control box
The Expert plus control box is supplied with 12 Volts through a fused power lead or the
tractor Euro plug. The Fusion machine is connected to the control box via a multi-core
circular connector.
There are no user serviceable parts inside the control box, the outputs are protected by
electronic current limiting and program updates are uploaded via the standard serial
connector on it's lower face.
No attempt should be made to open the control box as clearances inside are very tight
and the weather sealing is easily damaged.
There is an Input/Output test facility available to test the status of the inputs and outputs,
see section 11.8 on Input/Output tests.
11.3.3 Normal cycle operation
The control box set to Auto operation, baling commences with no bale on the wrapper
rollers. The chamber fills, the bale forms and when full, the chamber starts to open against
hydraulic accumulator pressure. The chamber full sensor opens, the control box emits a
series of beeps to warn the driver to stop, after 3 seconds the net clutch is energized
feeding net into the chamber signaled by a long beep. The rotating bale pulls in the net
which is measured mechanically, and when a pre-determined amount is applied the
cutting knife is tripped closing the net cut sensor.
The net cut sensor closing triggers the transfer part of the cycle. The top chamber door
opens followed by the bottom chamber door and when it's fully open the bottom chamber
up sensor closes. The netted bale transfers to the rear wrapping rollers and the chamber
doors close which closes the chamber full sensor.
The wrapping dispenser ring starts to rotate followed shortly by the wrapper rollers, after a
turn of the dispensers the Cut & Hold rams release their grip on the plastic film.
Dispenser rotations are counted by the dispenser proximity sensor until one turn
remains, the dispenser ring starts to slow down until half a turn remains where the C&H
rams extend fully gripping the wrapping film. At the final count rotation stops and the
dispensers reverse slightly easing pressure on the film. The C&H rams close from
hydraulic accumulator pressure gripping and cutting the film.
If auto tip is selected the bale is tipped when the next bale is being netted, otherwise
pushing the tip button on the control box will tip the bale.
Note: The bale should always be tipped when the machine is stationary.
