4 Open the battery enclosure cover and remove the battery.
5 Look into the battery enclosure and remove any foreign material that is
preventing a good battery connection.
6 Clean the battery contacts with isopropyl alcohol and cotton swabs.
7 If nothing is obstructing the battery connections, call Instrument Service and
Support.
I. The battery is not recharging.
A fully discharged battery will recharge to 100% in three to five hours in the
optional battery charger. A fully discharged battery in the Lasair II particle counter
will recharge to 100% in five to ten hours at room temperature.
Due to heating of the NiMH battery cells, the charger may periodically enter a
thermal wait state for one to three hours. This is normal and is designed to prevent
damage to the cells
As the battery is recharged, the percent of a full charge is displayed over the battery
icon. If there is no change in the percent of full charge do the following:
1 Remove the battery from its enclosure and examine the contact points on the
battery and in the enclosure. Look for signs of obstruction or contamination. If
you find contamination, clean the contacts and then try charging the battery.
2 If the battery is hot, remove it from the Lasair II particle counter and allow it to
cool to room temperature before continuing to charge.
3 If the battery still does not take and hold a charge, call Instrument Service and
Support.
J. The laser is not operating at an adequate power level.
When this condition occurs, the Lasair II particle counter will print
“Alarm: Laser ...” on the sample printout. Try running the sample again. If the
problem continues, call Instrument Service and Support.
K. The pump will not start. During extreme over-current conditions software
shuts down the pump.
1 Check for foreign objects clogging the pump flow.
2 Cycle power on the particle counter to clear the error condition.
3 If the problem persists, call Instrument Service and Support.
L. When running the Lasair II particle counter with Facility Net, you notice
gaps in the data plots. In addition, the date on the front panel of the
particle counter changes to Jan 1, 1970.
