Connecting to a Computer or Network
This appendix describes how to establish communications between the Lasair II
particle counter and a computer. This involves setting up network parameters on the
Lasair II particle counter and perhaps on the computer as well, if it is not already
attached to the local network.
Web Browser Interface
Hardware Requirements
The connecting computer must meet the following requirements:
• The computer must have a network card. You can use any computer that runs one
of the three common operating systems; Windows
®
, UNIX
®
, or Apple
®
.
• If the computer is a palm-size or hand held device, it must run the Windows CE
operating system.
Software Requirements
The computer must have one of the following browser software packages loaded
on its hard drive:
• Internet Explorer, version 5.0 or higher
• Netscape Communicator, version 4.61 or higher

Cable Requirements
If you are connecting the Lasair II particle counter to a computer directly or
indirectly, you will need the appropriate cabling.
• If you are connecting from the Lasair II particle counter directly to a computer,
use a crossover cable or adapter.
