Appendix M: Touch RAM
Page M-2 Lasair II Particle Counter Operations Manual
Touch RAM buttons are a hardware alternative to sampling recipes. A small metal
memory button is programmed with sampling parameters and a location name. The
button can be permanently attached to the wall near a sample point location. When
the button is read with a special wand reader, the sampling parameters and location
information are loaded into the Lasair II particle counter, eliminating the need to
manually enter the data.
TouchRAM Read/Write Communication Protocol Mode — This is the
communications mode necessary for the TouchRAM button Read or Write
function. When this mode is enabled, you can write a sampling scheme to a
Touch RAM button with the optional Touch RAM wand.
Setup Communication Protocol Mode — This mode is used for instrument
service and is not intended for customer use.
SIO Baud Menu — This menu is selectable from 1200–38400. All
communications use 8 data bits, one stop bit, and no parity. For Pharmaceutical Net,
select 9600 baud. The setting has no effect on the TouchRAM feature.
Touch RAM Button Formats
There are two Touch RAM button formats:
• A Lasair II particle counter-compatible format
• A MiniLaz compatible format
The Lasair II particle counter automatically reads either format, but it writes in the
Lasair II particle counter format only. Buttons written in the Lasair II particle
counter format will be ignored by a MiniLaz instrument.
