5.6 Gas Supplies
5.6.1 Medical gas pipeline
WARNIN
Gas connections are not interchangeable, check the label,
symbol, and colour code while connecting.
Use medical grade gas supplies only. Other types of gas
supplies may contain water, oil, or other contaminants.
Check that cylinders are available as a backup in case of a
central gas supply failure.
1 onnect oxygen, ar, and ntrous oxde medcal gas hoses
between the central gas supply termnals and the correct
nlet (1) on the anaesthetc machne
5.6.2 Gas cylinder installation
AUTION
Open the cylnder valves slowly to avod damage to the
pressure reducng valve and pressure gauges Ensure that
valves are at least one full turn open when n use
1 Ft the gas cylnders to ther respectve yokes (2)
2 Follow approprate manual handlng gudelnes when
lftng
3 heck that the machne yoke and cylnder faces are dust
free and clean
4 A sealng washer (3) provded s n poston between the
cylnder valve and the yoke
5 heck that the washer s correctly postoned
6 Tghten the yoke securely before openng the cylnder valve
Dust and drt presents a fre hazard n the presence of hgh
pressure gas
Leakage of hgh pressure gas can cause serous nury
7 Open the cylnder valves one at a tme and check the
pressure on each gauge (4)
