Operating the Anaesthesia System
7.3.2 Ventilating Neonates
WARNINS
1 Use ONLY Pressure ontrol Ventlaton (Pressure Mode) for
mandatory ventlaton of Neonates
2 Always set a low target pressure frst and then ncrease to
the requred level
3 Use breathng crcuts and flters specfcally desgned for
Paedatrc/Neonatal use
4 Note that expred volumes shown on the dsplay may read
hgher than actually delvered Use volume readngs as a
gude only
5 Do not ventlate pre-term babes wth brth weghts below
24 kg
7.3.3 Ventilator Daily Checklist
7.3.3.1 Hose and cable connections
heck for correct connectons
1 Fresh gas outlet on the anaesthetc machne (see secton
54) and the nlet (1) at the rear of the absorber
2 Bellows drve gas outlet port (2) and the bellows assembly
nlet (3)
3 Exhaust ports (patent block (4) and absorber (5)) and the
scavengng system
4 Manometer / pressure montor port
heck that the port (6) s securely connected to the port on
the rear of the absorber assembly (7)
5 Sprometer (see secton 5323)
7.3.3.2 Function Test
1 Select Adult default settngs usng the touchscreen
VT 600 ml / BPM 10 / IE Rato 120
Arway pressure lmt 38 cmHO (fresh gas compensaton
on)
2 onnect a 2-ltre breathng bag to the patent connecton
as a test lung
3 Use the O flush button on the front of the anaesthetc
machne to fll the bellows
4 Reduce gas flow to basal flow only
5 Select VOLUME YLE mode
6 After 10 breaths check that the bellows returns to the top
of the housng
Falure to return to the top of the housng ndcates a leak
n the breathng crcut Rectfy the leak before clncal use
7 heck the delvered tdal volume as ndcated on the scale
prnted on the bellows housng
Allowng for typcal complance n ths confguraton and a
basal flow, the value should be between 600 ml and 800 ml
If the delvered tdal volume s outsde ths range, refer the
ventlator to a traned engneer
