Operating the Anaesthesia System
7.4 Oxygen Monitor System Set-up (fuel cell
type)
NOTE
If a Masmo OR+ Module wth paramagnetc O montorng s
used, the fuel cell sensor s dsabled
7.4.1 Installation
Ft the oxygen sensor probe (1) to the absorber
onnect the cable to the nput socket (2) on the sde of the
machne, adacent to the patent block
WARNIN
The sensor contans a small quantty of electrolyte, classfed
as a harmful rrtant whch s potentally hazardous Do not
attempt to open a cell
ALWAYS check the ntegrty of the sensor assembly before use
Once exhausted, the sensor must be dsposed of accordng to
hosptal, local, state and federal regulatons
NOTE
To mantan maxmum sensor lfe
1 Always dsconnect the breathng crcut after use
2 Swtch off the machne to cut-off the basal flow through the
system
Heat and mosture exchanger (HME) and Bacteral flter
An effectve, new heat and mosture exchanger wth a bacteral
flter should be used for every patent Ft to the expratory lmb
of the breathng crcut to protect the oxygen sensor (see also
secton 6314)
AUTION
Replacement/Dsposal - follow the nstructons suppled wth
the flter Always replace at the recommended nterval
7.4.2 Calibration
albrate a new unt before clncal use
Thereafter, as a safety precauton, we recommend calbraton
of the unt every tme the system s swtched on
albraton must also be performed
1 When the sensor s replaced
2 When pont-of-use elevaton changes by more than 160 m
(500 feet)
Note that alttude compensaton s automatcally appled durng
calbraton
The calbraton process requres calbraton at the prmary pont
of 100% oxygen (see secton 7421)
To provde enhanced accuracy there s an optonal secondary
pont at 21% oxygen, usng medcal ar (or room ar, see 7422),
whch can be carred out after the prmary calbraton n 100%
oxygen
Note that the system swtch (1) must be n the ON poston for
gas delvery
