Operating the Anaesthesia System
7.4.2.1 Calibration - Using 100% Oxygen
albrate wth the sensor n poston wthn the absorber
1 Detach the absorbent canster (1) and remove the
breathng crcut hoses from the nspratory and expratory
connectors on the absorber
Ths wll gve a free flow of oxygen through the sensor
2 Set the absorber bag/vent swtch to VENT, allow the
bellows to deflate
3 Swtch on the machne (2)
Select O MONITOR ‘on’ n the O MONITOR AND
SPIROMETRY submenu (see secton 314)
4 Ensure that all vaporzers, f ftted, are OFF
5 Apply 100% oxygen at 5 L/mn, from the anaesthetc
machne flowmeter Allow the oxygen sensor to stablse
(check that the readng (3) remans constant for a 30
seconds perod)
6 albrate the sensor usng the ventlator menu procedure,
as follows
7 Press the menu swtch (4) and select the O MONITOR
AND SPIROMETRY submenu
8 Scroll to ALIBRATION and press the navgaton wheel (5)
to select the calbraton opton
9 The % value wll flash and a flashng message
PRESS TO ONFIRM wll appear
10 Ensure that the 100% opton s dsplayed (rotate the
navgaton wheel to select ths f the secondary pont value
of 21% s dsplayed) Press the wheel to confrm
11 A message ‘albrated at 100% oxygen’ should be
dsplayed
Note that the message ERROR AL OUT OF RANE wll be
dsplayed f the user attempts to calbrate at 21% n 100%
oxygen
12 heck the montor at the secondary pont Turn off the
oxygen supply Set a 10 L/mn flow of medcal ar
Note that f medcal ar s not avalable or f the basal flow s
greater than 50 ml/mn, use room ar (see 7422)
13 Allow the oxygen sensor readout (3) to stablse (wth the
readng remanng constant for 30 seconds)
14 The readng should show 21% (±1%) Note that a basal flow
of 100 ml/mn would mean that the oxygen concentraton
of the gas mxture wth 10 L/mn of ar would show 22%
rather than the 21% expected from medcal ar
15 If the readng shows no sgnfcant error proceed to
nstructon 23 below
If a sgnfcant error s seen a secondary calbraton can be
performed to set ths mxture as 21% as follows
16 Press the menu swtch and select the O MONITOR AND
SPIROMETRY sub-menu
17 Scroll to ALIBRATION and press the navgaton wheel (5)
