Leaving Your Pool, Going on Holiday
When leaving your pool for a few weeks, such as when going on holiday, your PoolCop will take care of all filtration and water
treatment as normal. It is recommended that you do the following quick checks, prior to leaving on holiday:
Remove all leaves and debris from the pool and baskets.
Verify that the automatic pool cleaner is in proper working condition, and consider leaving it in the pool depending on
type.
Verify that the pool pump and filtration system have no leaks, and manual valves are correctly set.
Verify that the water supply to the refill system is open, (if installed).
Check consumable levels are adequate for the duration of your absence.
Check PoolCop correct programming, and any Alerts.
Closing the pool for the winter (Winterise)
Active Winterize
Maintaining your pool year-round avoids heavy chemical shock treatment, the use of expensive treatment and cleaning products,
and much labour. When spring comes, and it is time to re-open your pool, there will be little expense, effort or time expended to
get your pool back to perfect condition. The costs of energy and consumables during winter are very low. Even during the depths of
winter, your PoolCop will take care of most of the work for you whilst saving you money, time and effort when spring comes.
Settings suggestions (see also 4.4.4.7 Antifreeze Protection):
The filtration mode should be set to ECO with the second filtration cycle during the coldest time of the day, e.g. 06h00
07h00. The filtration will run for a minimum of 1 hour each day.
Set freezing mode protection ON (in Pool Data menu).
The filtration will run at any time of the day should a freezing risk be detected.
PoolCop is equipped with a water temperature sensor that measures the temperature inside the valve data unit and is used
to protect equipment, the pump, the filter, etc. the filtration will be started when a temperature of 2°C is registered.
In the case where there is an external air temperature the filtration will be triggered from -5°C (adjustable).
The pH regulation will continue to function normally.
The disinfection will be stopped when the threshold temperature is reached (default is 15°C but this can be changed in
Configuration/Maintenance).
Passive Winterize
CAUTION
Passive Winterizing is not possible with all installations or in all areas.
Get the advice of a pool professional on the best solution in your area and with your type of pool.
It is recommended that you leave your PoolCop ON and electricity supply connected to keep the battery charged and in good
condition, this also keeps internal circuits warm and dry. Settings suggestions:
The pump and all accessories (pool cleaner pump, heat pump, etc.) should be switched off using the appropriate circuit
breaker on the electrical board.
Select the filtration mode Stop; the timers on the Cycles 1 and 2 will be at zero.
Ensure that the water circuits are purged; including the PoolCop valve.
Ensure that the water level management is stopped (Configuration/Water Level; the mode must be “Read Only”); purge the
refill circuit.
Remove the pH+ORP sensor from the valve data unit and store in a location away from risk of freezing; use the sensor cap
supplied or a small jar to ensure the tip of the sensor remains moist.
Remove the sensor holder from the valve data unit and seal using with the original cap.
Re-commissioning the PoolCop for the Season
When re-opening the pool after it has been passively winterized (or out or service for a period of time) carry out the following
procedure:
Replace the pH or pH+ORP sensor if removed.
Perform an annual service (as per 2.4.2.2 Annual Service)
Continue with the normal maintenance cycles of your pool and your PoolCop.
CAUTION
Active Winterizing is not possible with all installations or in all areas,
and less desirable in very cold areas where solid freezing is a bigger risk.
Get the advice of a pool professional on the best solution in your area and for your pool.
