Step 47. Reset the following parameters in the
SIMV mode:
Turn OFF TTV
plus
Ti 1 sec.
PEEP 4mbar
PIP 25 mbar
Step 48. Wait for the ventilator to deliver a
mandatory breath, on completion of this breath pull
the test lung.
Verify that:
the ventilator delivers a synchronized breath.
Step 49. Wait for the ventilator to deliver a new
mandatory breath, on completion of this breath pull
the test lung, after the ventilator has delivered the
synchronized breath, then pull the test lung in
approximately 0.5 second intervals.
Verify that:
the ventilator does not trigger on the 2 to 3
test lung initiated breaths before delivering
the next synchronized breath.
Step 50. Press the
PSV Setup button to
display the Pressure
Support settings
panel.
Set provide support to
75% of PIP and stop
support at 40% of
peak flow.
.
Press the ON/OFF button (F) to activate pressure
support.
Wait for the ventilator to deliver a new mandatory
breath, on completion of this breath pull the test
lung, after the ventilator has delivered the
synchronized breath, pull the test lung in
approximately 0.5 second intervals.
Verify that:
the ventilator does not trigger on the 2 to 3 test lung
initiated breaths before delivering the next
synchronized breath, but provides pressure support
to the test lung initiated breaths. (This can be
detected in the pressure waveform window by the
increased size of test lung breaths.)
Step 51. Set Pressure support to OFF
Note: Without the flow sensor fitted the user
will only be able to set the triggered breath
percentage level.
Action: If the ventilator fails any of the above
tests in SIMV mode then perform the
following actions in the order suggested
below. After each action retest the ventilator.
If the ventilator successfully passes all these
tests after performing one of these actions go
to Step 52.
• Check that the Change wave shape control
is set to is default setting.
• Check patient circuit is set up correctly as
shown in Section 12: Ventilator Set-up. Pay
close attention to proximal airway, fresh
gas connection and the expiratory limb
• Check the test lung and replace it if
necessary
• Replace the flow sensor cable
• Check pressure support settings are
correct
• Replace flow sensor
• Recalibrate system
If the fault continues after checking all
possible causes remove the ventilator from
service and contact an SLE approved
engineer.
