4.Loosen,butdonotremovethelocknut(item11inFigure262)securingthe
wheelhubtothemotorshaft.
5.Ensurethattheparkingbrakeisdisengaged.
6.Removethebrakereturnspring(item4inFigure262)andclevispinthat
attachthebrakecabletothebrakeactuatorlever.
7.Removethebrakedrum(item12inFigure262)fromthebrakeassembly.
IMPORTANT
Donothitthewheelhub,wheel-hubpuller,orwheelmotorwitha
hammerwhileremovingorinstalling.Hammeringcandamagethe
wheelmotor.
8.Ensurethatthelocknut(item11inFigure262)onthewheelmotorshaftis
loosenedatleastto2turns.Useahubpuller(refertoSpecialT ools(page
6–4))toloosenthewheelhubfromthewheelmotor.
9.Removethelocknutandwheelhubfromthemotorshaft.Discardthelocknut.
Locateandretrievethesquarekey.
Note:Ifnecessary,thecompletebrakeassemblycanberemovedfromthe
machinefordisassembly(step13).
10.Removethe2shoesprings(items3and4inFigure263)fromthebrake
shoes.
11.Removethe2holddowncups(item1inFigure263)and2holddownsprings.
12.Removethe2brakeshoes(item5inFigure263)and2holddownpins
fromthebackingplate.
13.Ifnecessary,removethe4bolts(item10inFigure262),4lockwashersto
removethebrakebackingplatefromthebrakeadapter.
AssemblingtheBrake
1.Useawirebrushtoremoverustandunwantedmaterialfromallthebrake
partsbeforetheinstallation.Cleanalltheparts.
2.Visuallyexaminethebrakeshoesandcontactsurfacesofthebrakedrumfor
excessivewear.Replacethepartsthatarewornanddamaged.
3.Ifthebrakebackingplatewasremovedfromthemachine,securethebacking
platetothebrakeadapterwiththe4boltsand4lockwashers.
4.Lightlylubricatethebrakeshoepivotpointswithhigh-temperaturegrease.
5.Positionthebrakeshoetothebackingplate.Installtheholddownpinand
securewiththeholddownspringandholddowncup.Repeatforthesecond
brakeshoe.
6.Installthe2shoesprings(items3and4inFigure263)tothebrakeshoes.
Thelargerspringshouldbeinstalledattheactuatorendofthebrakeshoes
andensurethatthebrakeshoesareproperlypositionedtothepivotand
actuatorpoints.
