Connecting Rod and Connecting Rod Bearing
1. General
The connecting rod connects the crosshead with the crankshaft and converts the
linear movement of the piston into a circular movement.
The bearing shells (4, 7, and 9, Fig. 1) (that you can replace) are installed on the
connecting rod (1) for the bottom end bearing and top end bearing.
The top bearing cover (1) is lined with white metal.
2. Lubrication
Crosshead lubricating oil flows through the connection (CO) to the top end bearing,
and holes in the crosshead pin let lubricating oil flow to the guide shoes.
Crosshead lubricating oil flows through the oil bore (OB) in the connecting rod (1 ) to
the bottom end bearing.
Bearing oil flows through the connection (PC) for piston cooling through the related oil
bores in the crosshead pin and piston rod.
