If a sign is in power saving mode (see paragraph 9.4.3) then the corresponding icon is shown “slashed” and
the text “BLANK” (uppercase) is shown at the beginning of the sign description. While in power saving mode
the sign is kept blank. If at least one sign is in power saving mode, then the LED signs icon in the status bar
also gets “slashed”.
The the icon corresponding to a sign is pale gray then the signs has been disabled (see paragraph 9.4.4).
If a sign reports self-diagnostic problem (e.g. broken LEDs) then a blinking red/yellow background is shown
on the corresponding icon in the signs list. The threshold for determining if the count of broken LEDs
reported by the sign really represents an issue (and so the alarm is reported) is configured as described in
paragraph 9.4.5.
Signs are periodically polled by the control unit, in order to recover the proper publication in case of sudden
sign restart. Anyway it is possible to force the system to immediately refresh the publication of signs by
simply pressing “Sync”.
Soft key “Test” toggles the signs test mode. While in test mode, signs are commanded to publish an
automatic test (the actual publication depends on the firmware installed in the sign, but usually comprehends
the version of the sign firmware and the logical address of the sign). Button “Test” turns red when the test
mode is active. Test mode, if active, is automatically terminated while leaving the LED signs diagnostics
screen.
The button “Discover” toggles the signs discovery mode. While in discovery mode LED the control unit tells
to all connected signs (broadcast), even the ones not listed, to enter the test mode. Button “Discovery” turns
red when the discovery mode is active. Discovery mode is particularly useful on buses where the address of
installed LED signs is unknown or does not match the expectations. In discovery mode all signs show their
address (and other useful information) to let the maintenance personnel to recognize and properly configure
them. When discovery mode is active (red button) the publication description shown for every listed sign is
relevant no more. Discovery mode, if active, is automatically terminated while leaving the LED signs
diagnostics screen.
The button labelled “Diag.” toggles the visualization of signs self-diagnostic data (if available depending on
the sign model), as shown in Figure 56.
Figure 56: LED signs self-diagnostic report
For every sign supporting self-diagnostic, the count of broken LEDs (absolute and percentage), the count of
total sign LEDs and/or the version of the firmware running on the sign is reported.
