• To maintain the chain at the camshaft, fasten the chain to the chain wheel with a cable
retainer. The position of the cable retainer must be at the 11 o’clock position of the chain
wheel seen from the rear side of the engine. The position of the cable retainer is shown
in Figure 85 - 105.
To prevent small parts from falling into the chain slot cover the slot with a rag. The chain
must not be slip from the tooth of the chain wheel!
• Remove the TCMT by hand turning.

The following parts are required for changing of the timing chain and chain wheel:
Timing chain, open version
Chain link, part of Timing chain
Chain clip, part of Timing chain
Screws for assy sensor housing
*) fully interchangeable with E4A-01-000-801, E4A-10-000-803 and E4A-55-100-802
The following tools are required for changing of the timing chain and chain wheel:
Timing chain measuring tool
- Bracket
- Fixing screw
- Screw with opening bolt
- Bracket
- Chain link positioner
- Positioner screw
- Screw with closing bolt
- Adapter block
Only use special tools when in good condition and free of any signs of deterioration or
damage.
To replace the chain it has to be opened as follows:
ï‚· Place the chain opening tool at the position shown in Figure 85 - 105. Choose a pin
between the chain guiding bar and cable retainer. The pin must be in the counter
clockwise hole of an inner link. To prevent that the pin falls into the chain slot cover the
end of the tool with a duct tape as shown in the figure.
ï‚· Fasten the tool with the positioning screw (Figure 85 - 105, No. 1) with the chain pin
placed between the adjusting tool and screw of the opening tool.
ï‚· Screw the spindle (Figure 85 - 105, No. 2) until the chain pin is completely removed from
the link.
ï‚· Unfasten the spindle and thereafter the positioning screw.
ï‚· Remove the opening tool. Take care that the loosened pin cannot fall into the chain slot.
