Configuration Commands
Syntax Description
Defaults No default behavior or values.
Command Modes Configuration
Usage Guidelines The command has one optional argument, an interface name. Without an optional interface name, the
command enables CDP on all interfaces.
Note The default for this command is on interfaces that are already up and running. When you are
bringing up an interface, stop CDP first; then, start CDP again.
Examples acs/admin(config)# cdp run GigabitEthernet 0
acs/admin(config)#

cdp timer
To specify how often the ACS server sends Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP) updates, use the cdp timer
command in Configuration mode. To revert to the default setting, use the no form of this command.
cdp timer seconds
Syntax Description
Defaults 60 seconds
Command Modes Configuration
Usage Guidelines CDP packets transmit with a time to live, or hold time, value. The receiving device will discard the CDP
information in the CDP packet after the hold time has elapsed.
GigabitEthernet Specifies the GigabitEthernet interface on which to enable CDP.
Command Description
cdp holdtime Specifies the length of time that the receiving device should hold a
CDP packet from the ACS server before discarding it.
cdp timer Specifies how often the ACS server sends CDP updates.
seconds Specifies how often, in seconds, the ACS server sends CDP updates. Value
from 5 to 254 seconds.
