Command Modes Configuration
Usage Guidelines You can use this command to configure subinterfaces to support various requirements.
Examples acs/admin(config)# interface GigabitEthernet 0

Related Commands
ip address
To set the IP address and netmask for the Ethernet interface, use the ip address command in interface
Configuration mode. To remove an IP address or disable IP processing, use the no form of this command.
ip address ip-address netmask
Note You can configure the same IP address on multiple interfaces. You might want to do this to limit the
configuration steps required to switch from using one interface to another.
Syntax Description
Defaults Enabled.
Command Modes Interface configuration
Usage Guidelines Requires exactly one address and one netmask; otherwise, an error occurs.
Examples acs/admin(config)# interface GigabitEthernet 1
acs/admin(config-GigabitEthernet)# ip address 209.165.200.227 255.255.255.224
IP Address was modified.

Command Description
show interface Displays information about the system interfaces.
ip address (interface
configuration mode)
Sets the IP address and netmask for the interface.
shutdown (interface
configuration mode)
Shuts down the interface (see shutdown, page A-137).
ip-address IPv4 version IP address.
netmask Mask of the associated IP subnet.
